In 1864 a new congregation was organized to serve the southeastern part of Marshall County. It was named Walnut Church of the Brethren, and it had 35 members. When the Walnut Church of the Brethren started in 1864, the congregation met in homes as there was no church
building suitable for services yet.
Walnut Church of the Brethren has grown over the years, both in membership and service. The Ladies Aid makes and furnishes blankets for newborn’s at South Bend Memorial Hospital and lap blankets for the local nursing homes.
The church is also focused on community and we run a Community outreach ministry called CHAFIA Swap Shop this is located at 172 S. Michigan Street in downtown Argos, Indiana. This ministry is opened to the general public and anyone can come in and find gently used clothes and household goods. The hours of operation our as follows Thursday 2:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. and Friday 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Donations of clothing and household good are always appreciated and accepted. We have an amazing program W.W.W. Walnut Warrior Wednesday prepares the next generation from Pre-k through High School to put on the Full Armor of God so that you can stand against the devils schemes. Ephesians 6:11. Walnut Church of the Brethren has always had a rich heritage in the Southeastern part of Marshall County we haven’t allowed our location to stop our focus on Jesus’ command to go and make disciples of all nations as commanded in Matthew 28 18-20.
